Bakgrund och historia
Franklin halva dollar producerades först 1948 och både framsidan och baksidan designades av John R. Sinnock. Liberty Bell på baksidan är liknande i designen till 1926 Sesquicentennial of American Independence-herden halv dollar som Sinnock också designar. Till skillnad från tidigare debut av nya amerikanska mynt möttes Franklin halv dollar med en mindre än entusiastisk mottagning av allmänheten.
Kanske var det för att det ersatte en av Amerikas vackraste mynt, Walking Liberty halv dollar.
